Software Design & Usability Testing Lab

A usability lab is a place that the design team can observe the users interacting with the program under evaluation. Most labs have two rooms. The observers' section is sound proof and is where the usability team can watch and discuss the users interaction with the equipment. The participant's side is a room set up to mimic an office environment and is where the user is working. There is either a one-way mirror or a set of cameras that allow the usability team to observe the users interaction with the technology. However, in its simplest form, a usability lab can consist of a room with a video camera set up to record the user for the team to watch and discuss at a later time.
